Since 1995 Ned McGowan has been researching the contrabass flute, performing on it solo and in many different combinations. In 2008 he composed the first ever concerto for contrabass flute and performed it (Bantammer Swing) in Carnegie Hall with the American Composers Orchestra. In 2016 Ned released a recording dedicated solely to the contrabass flute: 'The Art of the Contrabass Flute'.
